Don't Miss the Early Signs of Neuropathy, Seek Chiropractic Care and Treatment

Peripheral neuropathy can be both devastating and debilitating in the extreme. The pain may be so persistent and severe that it keeps you awake at night. Due to the symptoms, you could be prevented from working, driving, or engaging in your favorite activities. Even a daily combination of solid pain medications can't fully ease the agony.

The disease can also spread to your spinal cord, resulting in complete numbness in your feet. While you may be relieved by some symptom alleviation, this is the worst-case scenario—because you are now much more likely to suffer from deadly wounds, infections, and injuries.

What is Neuropathy?

Neuropathy is an illness that affects the peripheral nerves in the arms and legs. The disease starts when your nerve fibers are exposed to injury or abnormalities—which can occur for various reasons, including high blood pressure, diabetes, pregnancy, stroke, lupus, HIV infection, and autoimmune disorders.

Focal neuropathy is a type of nerve damage caused by vitamin deficiency, diabetes, or other factors. In addition, nerve damage due to surgery, accident, or illness such as Parkinson's disease causes acquired sensorimotor and sensory neuropathies.

What are the early signs of neuropathy?

Neuropathy is a stealthy and gradual-progressing disease. You may go years without feeling anything more than an occasional tingle or muscular twinge.

When you don't take the necessary steps to address this condition early, it may progress into more severe issues. The damage on your nerves becomes worse. Thus, it will be harder to find relief and restore functions.

However, if you have any of the typical risk factors for neuropathy, keep an eye out for any of the following symptoms, especially if you're experiencing them.

Weakness and Balance

Although the loss of feeling is one of the most common indirect signs, you may experience muscle weakness or trouble walking independently. This symptom can also indicate that if left unchecked, your neuropathy will progress to the next stage—where you'll be experiencing numbness in your feet.

Tingling in the Feet

As nerve damage worsens, you may experience a burning sensation in your feet. The pain may occur when you're inactive or lying down—which is when the blood isn't flowing as quickly through your body.

Sensations or Pain

The symptoms of neuropathy include the sudden and sharp pangs of pain in your limbs that may also be accompanied by a reddening or purplish color—which can indicate that you're developing ulcers and sores.

Wounds and Injuries that are not getting better

For people with neuropathy, any wounds and injuries they get will take longer to heal than for someone who doesn't have the condition. So if you notice that your wounds and injuries seem to be taking longer to heal, you should seek medical attention.

What To Do if You Suspect Neuropathy?

It's important not to wait if you suspect neuropathy. The first line of defense is to immediately schedule a visit with your primary care physician or internist for an exam. They will assess your symptoms and determine if you're at risk for neuropathy.

If they think you may be experiencing neuropathy, they will work with you to develop a treatment plan. It might include medication or special exercises. However, these treatments are often insufficient to reduce the pain and allow you to resume normal functions.

What is the Chiropractic Treatments for Neuropathy?

Electrotherapy and massage treatment without medicines may help patients with persistent damage or chronic neuropathy feel better. Your condition is likely to be treated with chiropractic therapy, physical therapy, massage therapy, and nutrition counseling in some combination. Chiropractic treatments, physical treatment, massage treatment, and nutrition counseling are the most frequent therapies for this problem. Dietary changes can have a significant impact on pain levels and symptom severity.

Cold Laser Therapy

One emerging treatment that is effective in the relief of neuropathy is cold laser therapy. Cold laser therapy is a type of non-invasive therapeutic intervention along with natural blood flow activation and healing process in soft tissue. Cold Laser Therapy stimulates your body's biological tissue repair mechanisms, which bring about a rapid recovery from injury or surgery. Cold laser therapy for neuropathy treatment is a completely safe, painless, and drug-free approach to healing damaged nerves, reducing inflammation, and stimulating healthy tissue regeneration.

Manipulation and Adjustments

Chiropractic adjustments may assist to reduce discomfort if you have persistent pain in your legs. The same goes for neuropathy, or any other kind of numbness, in your hands. When there is a misalignment in the spine, signals generated by nerves may be mixed up or sent to areas where they are not intended to go, such as muscle groups, because the spinal column is out of alignment. In addition, these methods may be used to help loosen tense muscles as a result of a variety of reasons, such as injury and poor posture.

Chiropractic adjustments, therefore, help enhance blood flow and restore nerve function around the damaged area, allowing for more oxygenated nutrients via improved blood circulation to allow for faster healing than surgical operations and short-term relief from pain medication. Chiropractic treatments focus on reducing nerve strain to minimize pain, increase range of motion, improve body alignment, and enhance the health of your nerve system.

Therapeutic Ultrasound

For many years, ultrasound has been used in physical therapy, and presently, it is now used by chiropractors. It is a type of medical imaging procedure that uses sound waves to generate images of the tissues of the body.

Ultrasound is a non-invasive, painless medical procedure that may be used to cure a variety of ailments. Patients can continue with their regular activities such as exercise or work while getting therapy because of the absence of negative effects and painless and non-invasive nature.

Nutritional Counseling

Various factors may cause neuropathy, and dietary changes may help ease the discomfort you're feeling. In addition, nutritional counseling is beneficial for patients suffering from neuropathy and those who eat fast food and do not focus on what they put into their bodies.

A healthy diet may include eating more fruits and vegetables, whole grains instead of processed carbohydrates, lean proteins instead of fatty meat sources, low salt intake rather than high sodium intake. Chiropractic nutritional counseling can help patients understand how nutrition can affect their condition and health.

Finding a Chiropractor for Neuropathy

The most important goal of chiropractic treatment is to find the underlying causes and aid in the relief of neuropathy symptoms. Cold laser therapy, adjustments, spinal decompression, and therapeutic ultrasound are just a few examples of chiropractic treatments. In addition, there are several options for neuropathy therapies that may be customized to meet your unique requirements.

Many factors contribute to chronic pain problems, including neuropathic pain, which is caused by poor posture, muscular tightness, and joint maladjustment. If you've been dealing with chronic nerve-related pain for months or years and haven't benefited from traditional therapies like medicine or physical therapy, it's time to think about chiropractic care.
